Great hotels on Greek islands. It’s not that easy to choose where to stay during your holidays. Yet, it’s an important decision, as hotels can boost your holiday experience a lot. I want to show you 5 great hotels on 4 Greek islands. So that you don’t have to spend a lot of time on research and still have stunning accommodation.
All of them were checked and experienced personally!
They are not the most expensive and luxurious hotels. They are also not the most budget friendly. They are somewhere in the middle, with more ‘standard’ prices. But they have everything what is needed to experience fully holidays on Greek island.
View.
Place to sit outside to drink Greek coffee, enjoy the view, smell the air, and listen to cicadas.
Atmospheric, local style architecture.
Swimming pools.
You can find ‘All-inclusive’ style big hotels on a few islands. On smaller islands, they don’t exist. Instead, there are many small ‘family-run’ hotels. All of the recommended hotels in this article are such small(er) hotels.
Hotel in Crete
Let’s start with the biggest Greek island, Crete. Very touristic island, with many bigger hotels. But if you travel 2 hours from Chania to the south, the atmosphere changes a lot. It’s in the Sfakia region, with the main town called Chora Sfakion. It’s more ‘empty’, wild, and mountainous, and it feels like being on a small island.
In Chora Sfakion you can find a few places (mostly ‘rooms to let’) to stay, and the new hotel Panorama New Generation.
The hotel is on a small hill, which makes the views amazing. And it gives a feeling of privacy too. There is an infinity pool, great for views and pictures. You can swim and look at the harbour.
And in the morning, breakfast is served around the pool area.
I stayed in the room without a sea view, but it still had a balcony with a view of trees. The room was quite standard, new, modern, and clean, with a nice bathroom.
From the hotel, you can easily go to restaurants ‘in the centre’ or more up the hill.
I recommend both, Chora Sfakion as a destination and the hotel Panorama New Generation.
Great Hotels in Santorini
From Crete, it’s quite easy to get to Santorini. So let’s look at 2 great hotels there.
Hotel next to Oia
One is in the small village next to the most famous Santorini town, Oia. The village is called Finikia. It’s a great location, as you can walk from there to Oia (around 15-20 minutes walk). So you can see Oia and be in the centre of all touristic activities (like photo sessions or watching the sunset), but you can also easily escape to a much calmer atmosphere.
Hotel Heliophos is situated in traditional caves. It doesn’t have a swimming pool. The atmosphere and views compensate for it.
Breakfast is already prepared in the fridge in the room, so you can eat it whenever you want on the terrace next to your room.
The rooms had nice interiors. There is also a good local tavern close to the hotel.
Heliophos is a great idea if you want to stay in caves, but at a more affordable price than in Oia. And if you like a calm atmosphere when staying in the hotel.
Hotel in Kamari
The second hotel is on the other side of the island, in Kamari. Crystal Blue Santorini. It’s more of a beach town. I have to admit that I didn’t stay here; my parents did. They are demanding clients (more than me), so if they recommend it, I can be sure it’s nice. It had a swimming pool, nice interior- very ‘Greek’ style and modern at the same time. And nice owners and staff.
Hotel in Ios
Moving just ‘one island up’, to Ios. Ios is sometimes called ‘cousin’ of Mykonos, as it’s also quite a party and sunset bars island. Harbour, though, is a calmer, and it’s a good place to stay. There are some restaurants and cafes, and small beach. Just a short walk from harbour there is the hotel Kritikakis Village.
The name is not accidental; hotel indeed looks like a small village, with white houses and stairs. It has a nice swimming pool with a bar, there is also a breakfast restaurant. We also had quite a large terrace with a sea view in the room. Next to the hotel, stairs to get to Chora start.
We liked this place so much that we changed plans and stayed there longer than planned!
Hotel in Paros
Let’s stay on the Cyclades islands a bit longer and movie to another island, Paros. The capital of Paros is Parikia, but the most known tourist town on the island is Naoussa.
It’s a beautiful town. There is a very nicely-looking atmospheric harbour with many restaurants. The hotel Senia was the one I stayed in during my visit. It was a bit further from the harbour, but within walking distance. Again, it had just amazing views of the sea (it seems I’m repeating myself, but yeah, it’s Greek islands after all!). I stayed there during my first trip on the Cyclades islands a few years ago, and I still remember these sunset colours there.
The hotel had a swimming pool, infinity pool, which makes swimming even more fun.
In the morning, breakfast was served in the restaurant, and it was amazing, so many options, especially all the traditional Greek pies.
The only minus was that it wasn’t that close to the bus station. I walked, it was walking distance, but I remember it wasn’t that nice walk in the heat. I think it’s absolutely worth it, anyway. Hotel Senia.
Hotel in Kalymnos
It was supposed to be 5 great hotels on the Greek islands, but I have to mention one more. Let’s say it’s a bonus and move much further, to Dodecanese islands group.
Kalymnos, a small island next to Kos. Less known, but absolutely worth a visit. In town Mirties you can find a new modern hotel called Hyperion.
I stayed there last year and was extremely lucky, as the day before my arrival… they opened a new swimming pool!
It’s on the rooftop, and it’s quite small, it’s still possible to swim a bit. It’s next to the bar and restaurant, where you can eat or drink coffee with a view. From the hotel, there is a view for Telendos island. It’s stunning, in daylight and at sunset. Rooms have balconies, and the ones on the higher floors have a sea view.
There was also breakfast served in the morning, and staff of the hotel was very nice. Rooms were new and clean, rather small.
Bar on the rooftop is a plus and minus, as it could get a bit noisy during few evenings (if your room is on the higher floor). However it wasn’t big problem for me, it wasn’t that noisy that would disturb me to sleep or rest.
Close to the hotel there are other nice restaurants. By walk you can get to pier, from which boats to Telendos go. There was also bus stop very close to the hotel, from which we could take a bus to Potia, island capital.
If you come by bus from Potia, bus stop is a bit further from the hotel. Hotel Hyperion.
Great hotels on Greek islands, summary
During every trip to the Greek islands (love island hoping!) I stayed in more places, it’s not all of them mentioned here. There were a few that absolutely didn’t deserve recommendations. And few that deserved it, but they were just ‘rooms to let’. Here, to show you great hotels on Greek islands I collected small hotels that had something special. Value added to your stay and levelling up your holidays for affordable prices.
