How to Travel: My Travel Philosophy

Some posts on this website contain affiliate links. I receive a small commission if you use the links at no extra cost to you.

This post is different from typical posts at my blog. This time I will not talk about points to see or do, transport or accommodation of any specific place.

Instead, I would like to present you my travel philosophy.

Due to two reasons.

Firstly, because it will help to get to know me better and understand what you can expect from my travel blog. As my approach towards travel is visible in blog posts.

Secondly, because perhaps it could inspire you even just a little bit?

Even if not, I believe it’s important to present it to my readers.

My Travel Philosophy

I could probably write about this for long. But I need to present it in a more organized manner. So after longer thinking, I decided to put my ‘philosophy’ into few points:

  1. Travelling is not for show off and pics. It’s also not for number and calculations ‘how many countries I visited’, it’s not competition. Travelling is for myself. For learning, for getting to know, for feeling. Most of all, for experiences.
  2. That’s why, running to just check and crossed out all the points from the list is not an option. Don’t get me wrong, I love visiting, seeing, travelling between places. I do and see a lot during my trips. But only things I want to see and not places that are on ‘must-do’ lists. Sometimes skipping some church, building or museum gives me time to sit and sip the atmosphere of the place calmly.
  3. Revisiting places is great. You can get to know them better and differently.
  4. Get to know places better. Read about them, get to know some pieces of history. Travel is not only about beautiful views, instagrammable spots and dresses blowing in the wind.
  5. Travelling outside highest travel season is calmer, and you can get to know the place better. Do it as much as possible (not always possible, obviously).

Travel blogger and travel content creator philosophy

As I’m a content creator and travel blogger, there is this one more point which is very important to me.

Travel is for experiences, not content. Experience, see and do and based on this create content. But don’t travel for content.

Travel to places you want to see, not places that ‘will click well’.

Also, my rule is to create blog posts about places that I ‘connected’ with very well. That were very special to me, and additionally I know I’ve gained enough knowledge about them.

So what travel means to me?

However cliché it may sound, travel is my passion for most of my life.

Travel is much more than dry facts and places. Travel is experience and something what is not easy to describe.

Travel is the smell of air when you leave the plane or go for a walk. Travel is tastes of food, of coffee. Travel is history of the place and current local life. Travel is vibe, atmosphere which you feel in the air.

Feeling of heat or frost on the skin, smell of herbs during the walk on Greek island, smell of pastry and coffee in Croatia.

And yes, travel is to see and get to know new places, enjoying nature views and visiting historical monuments (which you will find many in Europe).

But in my opinion, only the combination of typical visiting and these undescriptive emotions and experiences give you the full picture of the place.

My Travel History

Education

Already in secondary school, I attended special class profile called: ‘tourism and languages’. It allowed me to learn not only about important places to see in Poland, Europe, and world, but also learn about tourism from a more professional side.

I even passed the exam for travel guide! I haven’t used it though, and now it’s already open profession in Poland, however the knowledge and interest stayed until now.

First travels abroad

It’s hard to even admit it now, but it was even before Poland joined EU (what definitely opened boarders and travels) and before the internet was widespread that I had travelled abroad.

My first travels abroad were without smartphone, with printed paper maps. Do you sometimes wonder how we managed to travel, find monuments and hotels?

But we did. Sometimes I miss these times and these travels. I think it allowed to pay attention more to what I call in this post ‘experiences’.

Languages

Another passion since a long time was learning languages. I’ve finished linguistic/philological studies: Croatian and Serbian studies (well, can be more ‘touristic’ country than Croatia?).

I do speak Polish (mother tongue), Croatian, Serbian, Spanish, and obviously English. Furthermore, I also used to learn Italian, Russian, and German; I can’t really say I speak them though, but if the need appears, I will manage to communicate.

Languages help me to travel and to learn about and understand other countries.

Sports

This blog post is more about travel than sports. Yet, watching sport events on TV and most of all travel to watch live and participating in sports volunteering is another important part of my life. And this passion also had big influence at my blog.

Here, you can read more about My sports volunteer history.

Here, about the name of my website.

Why I started travel blog

It was a combination of these passions and histories. Plus, I actually really like writing and the written word.

I wanted to help people seeing places with this added perspective. To give you more than just dry facts like go there, see this, stay here.

Although giving comprehensive and practical, useful information is my goal as well.

I focus on Europe, because this is the place I know very well. I’ve seen many ‘less known’ places. And I can share with you both practical knowledge and ‘this something more’ that I’m sure about.

I obviously try to write my blog posts according to search optimization rules. However, more important for me is to present the destinations well and in the way I feel good about.

I write everything myself. I’m not using any artificial intelligence at all. I could, probably, and I know many of the bloggers do. I don’t judge. I just know, it’s not for me.

It wouldn’t align with the travel philosophy I’m presenting you here.

Thank you for your visit at my website!

I hope you will find it useful. And that it will help you to organize your trips, both from practical: ‘how to get’ ‘where to stay’ ‘what to see’ perspective and ‘something more’ experiences perspective.

Have great trips and great travel memories!
